Tao of Pow offers two different types of ski guiding.
Lift access powder tours (Dec- Jan)
There are a number of route options tailored to suit your fitness level, including very short hikes to slack country lines or long day ascents of Mt Obinata, Hakuba or Mt. Maeyama, Myoko.
In both tours our goal is to operate at the highest safety standard while showing every group a variety of fun and powder tracks.
Locations for one day tours
(BC and Lift access powder tours)
Just one hour from JR (Japan Railway), Nagano Station is the Hakuba area of Chubu Sangaku National park. The Hakuba area is the one of the biggest ski resort areas in Japan and for a good reason. Over 12 meters of dry powder fall on some of the biggest terrain in the country. The skiing is amazing and your image of skiing in Japan will change forever.
The original meanig of Myoko comes from Buddhism culture, it means the holy mountain standing in the center of the universe. Myoko is all about the riding. The area offers some of the best tree skiing in this area. In the village sometimes you will see snow walls more than 3m high in the high season. Typically less powder competition than Hakuba.
In Nagano prefecture there are over one hundred ski areas. Some are very small with just one chair lift. Most of the ski areas have lots of lift access backcountry and we know where the fresh pow lines are.
If you are based in Nagano City, we can choose the best ski area for current powder conditions within a one hour drive. Once at the ski area you may find yourself immersed in Japanese ski culture and the only tourist on the hill.
